2. Window Film: Four Materials Compared
The film decides clarity, fold resistance and how hard the bag is to recycle. PET and PP cover most apparel bags; brands chasing a bio-based story ask about PLA; PVC is fading out of European and North American orders under regulatory pressure.

3. Window Structure: Position, Shape and Load
- Position follows the handle: keep enough paper between the window edge and the handle hole as a load path; the higher the window sits, the more the bag mouth strength must be re-verified
- Round every corner: square windows tear from the corner under transport vibration, so keep a radius of 3mm or more
- Inside or outside patch: an inside patch feels flatter and smoother; an outside patch costs less labour but its edge lifts more easily, so test drop and abrasion first
- Single, double or shaped windows: twin windows suit set displays such as a bra and brief pairing; shaped and curved windows need their own die, which adds noticeably to sampling time and cost
4. Matching Paper and Grammage
Window bags need paper that is both stiff and clean-cutting. Coated one-side paper and folding boxboard machine the easiest, and a matte face pairs well with a window; kraft has long fibres and tends to fuzz at the cut, so sample kraft window bags before committing. On grammage, small bags usually start around 250 gsm and mid-to-large bags are safer near 300 gsm; below that, the paper around the window sags when the bag is hung or stacked.
5. Recycling and Compliance: A Window Is a Paper-Plastic Composite
- Treat it as a composite first: in many European collection systems a windowed bag still counts as a paper-plastic composite, and how it is classified depends on window area ratio and local rules — confirm with the destination requirements before shipping
- Make separation easy: the smaller the window and the cleaner the peel, the more acceptable the bag is at the sorting end; designing the film so it lifts off in one piece is common practice
- Keep materials consistent: a PP window with PP lamination, water-based inks and solvent-free adhesive makes the recycling path easier to explain and fits the direction of EU packaging rules on design for recycling
- Back up every claim: if the bag carries recycled-content or environmental wording, sourcing must be able to show certificates or supplier declarations, or the claim reads as greenwashing
6. Sampling and Acceptance: Five Checks
- Photograph the real product behind the window: check clarity and glare against the article
- Test the load: pull the handle at the real packed weight and watch whether the window corners wrinkle or tear
- Rub and drop: simulate shelf abrasion and a one-metre drop, then check whether an outside patch lifts or the film shifts
- Colour and print: the area around a window is where colour drifts most; on matte and laminated stock check the join for white edges or hazing
- Packing and shipping: make sure windowed bags do not press-mark each other in transit, adding board dividers or an outer sleeve if needed
