Colombia apparel labelling compliance comes down to two hard rules: Spanish language and permanent attachment. Every consumer-facing detail — fibre content, country of origin, importer information and care instructions — must be in Spanish and either sewn in or durably attached so it stays legible after washing.

1. The Legal Framework and Who Enforces It

Colombia's consumer protection statute (Estatuto del Consumidor, Law 1480 of 2011) requires sellers to give consumers clear, truthful, sufficient information expressed in Spanish. For apparel, fibre content, care instructions, country of origin and the responsible party (manufacturer or importer) are mandatory disclosures — and they cannot live on the hang tag alone.

• Regulator — the Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio (SIC) enforces consumer protection and can order non-compliant goods withdrawn from sale and impose fines

Care symbols normally follow the international system (ISO 3758): washing temperature, bleaching, drying, ironing and professional care. Colombian shoppers are less symbol-literate than European ones, so pair symbols with a short Spanish line.
