Garment Bag Size Chart: Get the Bag Size Right First Time

Poly bag size seems simple — until the bag is too small to fit, or so large it wastes material and looks sloppy. T-shirts, shirts, jackets and jeans fold to very different dimensions, so their bags differ too. This article gives you a garment bag size chart, plus measuring methods and film thickness advice.

The sizes below are folded reference values — your packing method rules: hand folding, machine folding, with or without tissue paper all change the numbers. When in doubt, send a sample garment to your supplier.

• Fold exactly as it will be packed (tissue and hangtags included), lay flat, then measure length and width
• Add 3–5cm to both length and width: smooth packing and clean seals
• For bulky items (puffer jackets, coats) also check thickness — consider larger or side-gusseted bags

4. Film Thickness & Bag Style

Film thickness is measured in si (1 si = 0.01mm). 0.04–0.05mm suits regular retail and e-commerce packing; 0.06–0.08mm is stiffer, for jackets, gift boxes and shelf display; anti-static and biodegradable films follow industry requirements. As for style: flat bags are most common, zipper bags suit repeated opening, and hanging garment bags fit rail transport.

5. Special Cases: Hanging Bags & Multi-Packs

• Hanging garment bags (rail transport): bag length = garment length + 20–30cm, width 50–65cm, with a hook opening on top
• Multi-packs and sets: size by the stacked height — better a little large than too small
• E-commerce singles: zipper bags plus bubble wrap or fillers, leaving 1–2cm of buffer inside
